Panda Love fabrics {a finished baby quilt – and a giveaway!}

In my house, we have a big love of pandas (my son could be called a fanatic!).  So, of course I adore this new fabric line called Panda Love by Kelly Panacci for Riley Blake Designs.  Kelly has put together a fun collection that includes several great low volume prints mixed with aqua, pink and black for a nice contrast.

Panda Love - Ripple Baby quilt by Amanda Castor of Material Girl Quilts

Aren’t those little guys hanging out on the bamboo so cute?!

For this quilt, I used my Ripple pattern which comes in four sizes (baby, lap, large throw and queen).  As I was piecing it, I made sure to mix up the direction of any directional prints so that the quilt didn’t feel like it had a “top” or “bottom” and I think it also makes it feel a bit more scrappy.

The backing fabric I chose is a Riley Blake Designs basic called Hashtag Cottons – I used the large hashtag in aqua.  You can see all of the Hashtag Cottons color and size options by clicking here.  This color and print coordinates perfectly with the Panda Love collection.

For the quilting, I did some quick meandering loops using Aurifil 50 wt. thread in a matching aqua color.  I love how it pops on the black!

If you’d like to make a Ripple quilt for yourself – the pattern is on sale for $5 through April 4th.

  4. My two favorite spots are NYC and DC. So much to see! And a great blend of historic, cultural,, naturally beautiful, just plain interesting, and fun. And if you go to DC, so many of the places you want to go offer free admission, which is nice.

  5. A cabin in the beautiful Georgia mountains is my idea of a sweet vacation. Books and hiking trails fill each day. Adorable quilt!

  6. I love Gulf Shores. It’s such a relaxing, peaceful place. There is just enough to do to entertain you, but not so crowded. If you want to relax, it’s a fantastic place to take in the beautiful Gulf view.

  7. Love the Panda quilt! I guess my favorite place right now is Europoe, especially Germany. We went last July for 3 weeks and it was more like spring time and I would love to go back soon. As far as the US, camprounds are so enjoyable almost anywhere.

  13. My favorite vacation spot is Ireland – the people are lovely and there are lots of castles to explore! Only a five hour flight from the east coast, so closer than California!

  14. Lovely quilt. My favourite spot to vacation is Toronto Canada. It is beautiful and has lots of things to do. Walking everywhere is an option, you see more that way.

  22. We enjoy doing any of the Civil War sites. Not only for the history aspect but there is always something else fun to do in the area.Shiloh TN may be the exception but Nashville and Memphis are within a couple of hours.

  23. Yellowstone, everyone should do it at least once in their lives. Another is Glacier National Park, also at least a once-in-a-lifetime kind of adventure.

  24. My fascination with pandas started back in the 70’s!! Love this quilt!!! I do not think I’ve found my favorite vacation spot.. to many wonderful places yet to be seen.. ALTHOUGH i have ‘met’ over 25 pandas in my travels.. all in the US… and they do make a wonderful vacation… one trip i think we made it to 3 spots that had pandas (yes I do the trip planning!!!) Hope you find a great spot to see… We will be off to the 5 national parks of southern Utah in a few weeks!!

  27. I’ve lived on the West coast most of my life and there are lots of beautiful places to visit here. Lake Tahoe is definitely one for your bucket list. Solvang, CA is charming. However, I highly recommended Boston, MA. Boston has wonderful walking tours, awesome lobster rolls and a really cool aquarium! Washington, DC is terrific for history and museums, too. You could easily spend a week visiting the different Smithsonian Institute museums! Don’t forget the Jefferson Memorial; the reflecting pool and the Holocaust Museum (which is NOT entertaining or enjoyable, but sooo important); Arlington National Cemetery and the Viet Nam Memorial Wall! Oh – the Riverwalk and the Alamo in Texas are great, too!

  28. Love the baby quilt pattern and fabric. Any of the state and national parks in Utah are favorites – they are best in the spring or fall unless you really like heat.
