Layer Cake Sampler QAL Week 2 {Blocks 3 & 4}

What a fun week this has been seeing the excitement build around the Layer Cake Sampler QAL.  I have LOVED seeing everyone’s blocks on Instagram and Flickr.  If you haven’t checked them out yet, you should!  You will find lots of beautiful inspiration.

Today I am sharing the layouts for blocks 3 and 4.  Remember that you can find the basic block piecing instructions here if you need a refresher.

Block 3:

Block 3

I really love the extended pinwheel created with this layout.  My two prints are not very contrasting so the pinwheel doesn’t stand out as much as I’d like, but it’s still one of my favorite blocks.

Here are some more options with this block layout.

Block 3 - 1

Block 3 - 3   Block 3 - 2

Block 4:

Block 4

This block uses your HSTs to create flying geese and I love the simplicity of it.  Aren’t those red and white polka dots super cute?!

A few more color options with this layout are shown below.

Block 4 - 4   Block 4 - 3   Block 4 - 2

Now I can’t wait to see what you all do with your blocks!!  Don’t forget to share them on Flickr and Instagram (using #layercakesamplerqal) if you have accounts. Thanks again for quilting along and I’ll be back next Friday with Blocks 5 & 6.

  1. Thank you. I really like block 3 as well. I need to get started on these. I did check out some photos. It’s so great to see the different interpretations of the same block.

  3. I have my first two blocks done. I love the way they fit together perfectly. I have lost my fear of half-square triangle blocks!
